FREIXO BRIDGE

Ponte do Freixo is a road bridge that connects Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto, over the Douro River, in Portugal.

Of the bridges that connect Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, the Freixo Bridge is the one that is further upstream from the Douro River.

Project authored by Prof. António Reis, the Freixo Bridge was built in an attempt to minimize the traffic congestion experienced in Arrábida and Dom Luís I Bridges, particularly noticeable since the late 1980s.

They are, in fact, two bridges built side by side and 10 cm apart. The bridge has eight spans, the main one being 150 m. It is a road bridge with eight traffic lanes (four on each side), but with a board much lower than all other bridges that connect Porto to Gaia.

The Freixo Bridge was inaugurated in September 1995 by the Junta Autónoma das Estradas.

CRESTUMA-LEVER DAM

Crestuma-Lever Dam is located in the Porto district of the Douro River basin on the Douro River in Portugal, being the last dam in the Douro before reaching the mouth. Initially designed for the parish of Crestuma, it was eventually built in the parish of Lever. Since September 29, 2014 belongs to the Union of Parishes of Sandim, Olival, Lever and Crestuma.

In addition to water storage and electricity production, it serves as a pedestrian and road crossing for the municipality of Gondomar, on the other side of the river.

It has a height of 65 meters above the foundation length of 470 meters. The installed capacity of electricity generation is 117 MW.

The dam includes in the left encounter a lock of the Douro navigation channel, with a length of about 90 meters and a width of 12.1 meters, which overcomes a maximum difference of 13.9 meters.

INHA RIVER

The Inha River is one of the tributaries of the left side of the Douro River, which flows between the mouth of the Arda (upstream) and Uíma (downstream) rivers.

The Inha River emerges in the Middle Ages under this designation and was documented in 1078 as an riuulo ignia, in 1098 as ribulo ignea, in 1112 as rrilulo Ignea, and a Hinia flow in 1115.

It is born in the place of Belide, in the parish of Escariz, municipality of Arouca, and passes through the parishes of Romariz, Vale and Canedo, both of Santa Maria da Feira.

It divides between the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira and Gondomar having to cross a large bridge that crosses between these two municipalities of different districts called Inha Bridge of Engineer Edgar Cardoso.

It is a river that runs predominantly excavated on steep slopes, and is very rich in river fishing such as trout, bogas and beards and for a great sunbathing, in and out of the water.
